I’m engaged!

posted by admin

in cool, dating, mmm

OK, this post is a few weeks late  :)   I was debating whether or not to post anything too personal on here, but it’s a huge deal and I’m really happy about it so I don’t care who knows.

One thing I realized this weekend is that I’m going to have to give up the snooze button on my alarm clock starting in August.  Sooo…I’m going to start reading up on tips for better sleeping so I can work on falling asleep at a normal time and waking up the first time the alarm goes off.  Take notes guys…relationships are tough!

Check out the bling:

wind-lit solar LEDs

These pretty little LED lights were originally battery powered, but now run on solar power.  During the day they absorb energy from the sun and save it, then light at the hint of a breeze at night.  Turned on by wind and powered by the sun…pretty cool.  Unfortunately not for sale yet, but I’m going to keep an eye out for them in the future.

Here are more details, courtesy of Inhabitat:

“The light is composed of a glass, bell-shaped, vessel, that holds the LED light, circuitry, and solar panel. Wax holds the electronics inside the glass vessel and disperses the emitting light. Paper is suspended from the center of the circuitry, and as the strip of paper is blown, the light turns on. The light will burn depending on the weather that day – more sun charges the battery longer and stronger winds keep it on.”

Happy April Fools day!

in rankings

For your viewing pleasure, here’s a link to the 10 Best April Fools’ Gags, compliments of Wired Magazine.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

1976 At precisely 9:47 am on April 1, Pluto will pass behind Jupiter, causing a brief reduction in Earth’s gravitational pull. Astronomer Patrick Moore urges his BBC Radio audience to jump into the air at that exact moment to experience a floating sensation. At 9:48, dozens of light-headed listeners begin calling the station to report their success.”

2003 Bill Gates is dead, shot by a lone gunman at a charity event in Los Angeles. After three South Korean networks broadcast the story on local TV, ensuing panic triggers a 1.5 percent drop in the Seoul stock exchange — a value loss of $3 billion. Just another Windows-related crash.”

in fiscal fasting, money

Sooo…my post fiscal fasting spending was nice and tame, until this past week, when I splurged on:

1) a new external hard drive (it’s amazing!)…got it for $89 with a coupon and sale
2) new car radio…I can FINALLY listen to my mp3 player in the car now!!
3) a plane ticket

I might have to “fiscal fast” for the next 3 weeks straight.  Totally worth it though  :)
