lenovo: 1, macbook air: 0

When the Macbook first came out I did a review based on the description. I decided it wasn’t for me, based on the lack of enough usb ports, lack of cd drive, small hard drive, etc. Lenovo takes it one step further:

Do I need to switch to Apple?

iphone last supper

Creative is facing a major outcry from customers after putting a stop to one man who created drivers to make products Vista-compatible.

A programmer, “Daniel_K”, had created drivers for X-Fi sound cards and Vista when, a year after the OS was released, Creative has failed to release updates themselves.  Asking merely for donations, he was recently hushed when Creative told him he was “stealing” by taking their products and altering them.

As a new Vista user, I’ve faced issues with several programs after only a couple of weeks.  And I’m still waiting for more…with almost every application I install, I get a warning that there are known bugs with the app and Vista.  I think keeping up with new operating systems and providing updates is the least these companies can do.

Anyway, supposedly iPods work fine with Vista.  I might need to make the switch when I get a new mp3 player.  Not because I like Vista, but because I like companies that provide updates when updates are needed.  We’ll see though…I’m normally anti-Apple.

new obsession…google reader

posted by admin

in Techie

Before today I’d spend awhile scouring a list of my favorite sites, hungry for any new/interesting news.  Then I finally (better late than never, right?) decided to add all of them to my google reader via RSS feeds.  So, here it is (no, the sites listed aren’t the only ones I read, just the ones with updates since the last time I’ve checked them):

Yes, that is a dude kissing Doogie Howser.  He’s been out for awhile though  :)

but how do i control people?

By late 2008, Emotiv is releasing a device that allows you to play video games.  Using only your mind.  Nope, this isn’t an episode of the Twilight Zone.  I can’t believe this technology is so close to being released!  For $299 you’ll be able to use the neuroheadset on “compatible” games (not sure how many games that’ll be).

More details: can read 30 facial expressions, plus the smile, blink and wink.  Umm, not that any of us wink at our video games.  Hopefully the other 30 make a bit more sense.

New blackberry in the works?

in Techie

RIM has a patent application listed for a new blackberry with a slide-out keyboard and larger viewing screen. What do you think? Too much like the rest of the pack?

Looks like it’ll also have a touchscreen! According to the patent, “Such display screens…may include one or more touch interfaces, including a touchscreen.”

time to unload the HD dvd players…

posted by admin

in Techie

BestBuy is trying to unload their HD DVD players as quickly as possible. For only $50 you can buy the HD DVD player for XBox 360, which comes with King Kong and qualifies for 5 free HD DVDs after mail in rebates. I guess if you’re interested, buy one before they’re gone! The price really isn’t bad but keep in mind that you won’t be able to buy any new releases in that format from here on out…
